Traced origins to 1932 when established at Bradford by Gllbert Briggs, 1890-1978, who was in the textile export business at Bradford from 1906-31, ending up as a partner in Thomas B Lund & Co which collapsed in 1931. He then developed a niche business making high quality loudspeaker components and sound systems that quickly emerged as world leaders, being sold under the Wharfedale brand. Briggs, himself, became known as 'father of hi-fi sound'. Works at Bradford, 1932-37, at Brighouse, 1937-46, and at Idle, 1946-58, with offices at Bradford. 1959 acquired by the Rank Organisation Ltd. Sold on to Verity Group Plc in 1980s
