Thomas Hall, 1692-1748, was variously a ship's captain, shipowner and manager and merchant who was engaged in trade with European countries and more distant markets ranging from China to Argentina. Towards the end of his career he was chief contractor of shipping to the East India Co. Involved in the African slave trade. Accumulated great wealth which he invested in land and British government securities
