Built 1761-69 by the Board of Ordnance to store gunpowder, replacing a facility at Greenwich deemed to be hazardous to life and property. Built between 1761-69 with William Skinner, 1700-80, and John Desmaretz, engineers, responsible for conception and design. A very large storage complex pivotal to British military supply through the late Georgian and mid Victorian periods
