Traced origins in business at Banbury to William Rusher, c1750-1849, who was a bookseller there by 1785 as well as a publisher of books he wrote. From c1790 acquired business of a hatter and jewellers and added these to his bookselling. From 1795 started trade directory publishing. Retired in c1823 when succeeded his his sons, notably John G Rusher, d1877, who took business forward adding printing to it and publishing chapbooks he himself wrote. Shortly after his death business sold to William Potts, a newspaper proprietor
