Established by three corn merchants in c1768 as a substantial tide mill - known as Bishopstone Tidemills - to supply mostly London with flour via the coastal trade. Acquired by he Catt family in 1790s and they - Edmund and William increased the five pairs of millstones to 16 pairs. By 1826 traded as William Catt & Sons. Catt family sold mill to Newhaven Harbour Co in 1879 and leased it back. Closed c1883 and subsequently demolished
