Established in early 19th century by three Peek brothers - Richard, William and James - as Peek Brothers & Co in City of London. This was primarily a tea importing business, but also dealt in coffee and spices. By 1860s the leading UK tea importer when James Peek, 1800-79, was important in its affairs. In 1857 he diversified his family's interests by establishing an entirely separate biscuit making business, Peek, Frean & Co at Bermondsey. The tea business continued, notably under (Sir) Henry Peek, 1825-98. In 1895 it merged with another Peek family tea importing business at Liverpool which William had formed in 1834. The new business was then incorporated as Peek Brothers & Winch Ltd. Camel was their leading tea brand. In 20th century continued as a leading business taking the form of general provision merchants as Peek, Winch & Tod Ltd
