Long Bridge, Barnstaple, was a major medieval road bridge crossing the River Taw, linking Barnstaple with Tawstock. c500 feet long with many arches. Built by late 13th century, subsequently widened and continues in use. Early on endowed by individuals and collected other revenue. Managed by Barnstaple Corporation, later by trustees and the Bridge Trust. Acquired property portfolio out of surplus revenue. 1961 the bridge was vested in Ministry of Transport, the Bridge Trust continuing
