Sampson Gideon, 1699-1762, was a leading London stock jobber / broker and financier, in business from 1719. His financial activities embraced at a routine level marine insurance underwriting and secured loans to merchants while he also formed syndicates to invest in British government securities and provided general financial advice to the government on their stock issuance in which he was a major issuer / investor. Notably he played a key role, 1749-50, in enabling the government to reduce interest payable on its stock from four to three per cent. 1729 appointed one of the 12 Jewish brokers officially recognised by the City of London.
