A society of learned men which met to network and to produce and exchange ideas. Comprised medical doctors, scientists and businessmen such as William Strutt and Josiah Wedgwood. Seen as a society,like Lunar Society of Birmingham, which facilitated the transfer of scientific knowledge into productive technology. 1858 merged with other Derby intellectual institutions
