John P White, 1855-1917, in 1896 established Pyghtle Works at Bedford, initially to make builders' joinery. Soon started to make garden furniture initially from wood but later also from other materials. Became well known for this and in 1906 established a Bond Street showroom. In decline by 1930s. 1960 merged with Samuel Elliott Ltd of Reading when Bedford works closed
