Notes:
Traced origins to 1759 when established as a partnership by Dr John Roebuck, Samuel Garbett and William Cadell as Scotland's first modern ironworks. The industrial revolution in Scotland is reckoned to have started with its opening. Incorporated by royal charter 1773 when known as Carron Co. Developed rapidly into a major Scottish business with vertically integrated functions - iron founding, coal and iron ore mining, brickmaking, pig iron production, shipping - at an especially early date. Pig iron was sold to other businesses but much was retained for making an especially wide product range. Early on naval and military cannon were notable products. Later products included stoves, grates, ovens, ranges, baths, sinks, sanitary pipework, etc, etc. Latterly made products in plastic and stainless steel. In receivership 1982 when revived as Carron Phoenix
