Humphry Morice, c1679-1731, inherited his father's merchanting business in 1690s which he developed especially in trading with the Netherlands and Africa. By 1720s reckoned England's foremost slave merchant. MP and sometime Governor of Bank of England. Latterly his reputation damaged by fraudulent use of bills of exchange
