Long established firm of iron platers and frying pan makers established in c1601 at Stanton Dew, Somerset, by Cornelius Hallen, from Belgium, to make armour and later wrought iron frying pans. c1634 the family opened a branch at Wandsworth, London, and between 1647-54 others at Coalbrookdale, Stourbridge and Newcastle under Lyne. Birmingham branch opened c1719. In decline after 1750 with progressive closure of branches. Coalbrookdale last to close in 1798.
