Traced origins to John Aldred, 1788-1862, in 1796 when he made at Rotherham charcoal for local metal producing businesses. 1801-16 known as T O Warwick & Co, a partnership of John Aldred and a Dr T O Warwick located at Wellgate Works. Then also made refined wood spirit. Thereafter controlled by John Aldred. Developed chemical production - eg acetic acid, tar, pitch, white lead, from byproducts. From early 1880s controlled by Shirley Aldred. By 1900 works at Rotherham, Killamarsh and Chesterfield. 1906 moved to Worksop. Incorporated 1897. Continues
