(Sir) Edward Thomason, c1769-1849, started out an an apprentice of Boulton & Watt and in 1790 established his own works at Birmingham to make gilded and plated buttons; jewellery; medals and tokens; and later plated objects. Noted for the fineness of his medals of influential people which led him to the establishment and he was knighted
