Thomas Bish, senior, d1815, was a stockjobber and lottery contractor appointed by government to market lottery tickets. In this capacity developed pioneering methods of promotion - newspaper and journal advertisements, direct mail, posters, handbills, promotional carts, etc. From 1797 established network of provincial branches and agencies. Became dominant lottery contractor and grew rich. Sometime MP until expelled. Worked closely with his son, Thomas Bish, junior, d1843, who succeeded to the business
