Catteshall Mill was a long established watermill in existence from early times and used for grain milling, fulling and papermaking. Under Lanewey family from 1393 to 1595 when used for grain milling and cloth fulling. Subsequently owned by More family, 1595 to 1656, when used for same functions. Papermaking started in mid 17th century, replacing fulling. 1782 to 1803 operated by Joseph Chandler and John Sweetapple as a paper and grain mill. 1813 to 1843 involved in leather tanning under Twycross family. The Spicer family, sometime trading as H Spicer & Co Ltd, papermakers, operated the mill from 1868 to 1898 when succeeded by Farncombe Paper Co Ltd until 1907. Thereafter until 1939 operated by Albert E Reed & Co Ltd, papermakers
