William Forbes, 1756-1823 [elsewhere 1743-1815] was an Aberdeen coppersmith, with his brother George inheriting the business of their father in the 1760s. Opened a London branch in 1771 which made copper nails, bolts, especially ship sheathing and other copper goods for the Royal Navy and other customers. Partnership dissolved 1775 and in 1786 another established by William and his brother David. This was dissolved in 1794 when William retired to Scotland where be bought and improved very large landed estates
