The Pantheon was developed in the early 1770s as a leading venue for concerts and masquerades. For long owned and from time to time managed by a company owned by shareholders. Initial building designed by James Wyatt. Initially very successful. 1789 converted to an opera house. Rebuilt 1795 as assembly rooms. 1833-34 rebuilt as a bazaar when designed by Sidney Smirke. 1867 until 1937 taken over by W & A Gilbey Ltd, leading wine merchants and distillers, and thereafter used as their offices and showrooms
