Notes:
Earliest Scottish plant was at Foyers which opened in 1895. Other plant followed at Kinlochleven and Fort William. 1971 a very large but ultimately unsuccessful smelting plant opened at Invergordon which closed in 1981. The latter operation was generously supported by government funding and by other means leading to a close association between government and British Aluminium
