Traces origins to James Kelway, 1815-99, who in 1851 set up at Langport as a nurseryman, seedsman and florist. Expanded rapidly to employ c50 employees on 140 acres by 1881. Succeeeded by his son William, 1839-1933, and grandson, James, 1871-1952. Known as Kelway & Son from 1864. Incorporated as Kelways Ltd in 1924. Collapsed in early 1930s when business acquired by Kelway & Son (1935) Ltd. Continuing in 2011
