Traces origins to 1881 when built by William Harvey, d1936, and his brothers. By 1886 business reorganised as Bruichladdich Distillery Co (Islay) Ltd. Sold by Harvey family in 1936. Subsequently a succession of owners including Train & McIntyre (1938), Ross & Coulter Ltd (1952), A B Grant (1960), Invergordon Distillers Ltd (1968) and Whyte & MacKay (1993). Closed 1994. Reopened 2000 by group of private investors as Bruichladdich Distillery Co Ltd
