Notes:

(Sir) Lawrence Dundas, 1712-81, was sometime a wine merchant and international merchant but became an important army contractor, especially from the late 1740s, supplying forces in Scotland after the 1745 Jacobite Rising and later in Europe during the Seven Years War, 1756-63. He also acted for governments in Germany. He emerged from this with great wealth which enabled him to buy vast landed estates and enter Parliament and become influential in Scottish business - eg Royal Bank of Scotland and Forth & Clyde Navigation [2023]
