Traced origins to Alexander Henry, d1862, who in 1804 established at Manchester a textile merchanting business. Soon joined by his brother, Samuel. They were nephews of Alexander Henry, b1766 and retired 1807, who in 1783 emigrated to USA where he established what became a major textile trading business importing from UK. The UK business grew rapidly to become a leader with branches at Bradford, Huddersfield, Glasgow, Belfast, Leeds, etc. Incorporated in 1889 when also manufacturers. By then the Henry family had ceased to have a significant role in business
