Established 1929 through the merger of J & T Brocklehurst & Sons Ltd and William Whiston & Son Ltd of Langley and other to form Brocklehurst Whiston Amalgamated Ltd. Brocklehursts were established 1745 to manufacture silk and mohair buttons for fashion fabrics and furnishings. By early 19th century making silk fabric and handkerchiefs, ribbons and broad silk. Brocklehurst family withdrew 1911. Whistons were established c1826 by William Smith as silk printers. Both were industry leaders. Subsequently acquired other silk businesses including David Whitfield & Son Ltd and Adam Hinde & Son Ltd. 1970s acquired by Slater Walker Securities Ltd and sold on to Bodycote International when renamed Brocklehurst Fabrics. This closed 1991 and assets sold
