Established by Thomas Gaskell, d1946, in 1902 as a felt merchant's business dealing in underfelts, stair pads, mattress pads, etc. 1919 started to deal in carpets. 1924 started to manufacture felts. 1929 incorporated. 1948 converted to a public company by which time owned three mills. Post 1945 started carpet manufacture with Broadloom Carpeting Ltd and in 1953 acquired British Needlefelt Co Ltd in order to start rubber proofing. 1953 ceased merchanting
