Traced origins to Rawlins Brothers, a firm of plumbers established in London in 1887. 1910 John Rawlins devised and later patented an innovative fibre device for securing items to walls. These soon became known as 'rawlplughs', which in due course became a generic term. 1919 the business was reorganised as Rawlplug Co Ltd and thereafter developed rapidly, adding a range of related products to become the market leader. Manufacturing was initially in London, later in Glasgow. 2001 acquired by BPB Group and in 2005 sold on to Koelner Group
