William Littler, sometime a potter of Longton, Staffordshire, established himself at West Pans in the mid 1760s as a maker of pottery and especially fine porcelain. Soon after opened a wholesale and retail warehouse at Edinburgh. 1777 West Pans business failed. Regarded as the founder of Scotland's porcelain industry
