Traced origins to 1935 when set up as Night Watch Services by Edward Shortt to provide burglary prevention security services to wealthy individuals in inner London. Soon sold on to new owners and closed 1939-45. Revived 1945 when focus was industrial security services. By 1951 had 170 personnel and by 1959 650. 1953 renamed Securicor. 1960 acquired by Kensington Palace Hotel Ltd, later Associated Hotels Ltd, and soon grew by acquisitions and diversification. 1960 acquired Armoured Car Co. Established security centres, cash carrying services, secure storage services, express parcel delivery services, etc. Subsequently quoted and emerged as leading UK security services business. 1985, with British Telecom, established the pioneering and successful mobile phone operator, Cellnet. Merged with Group 4 Falck to form Group 4 Securicor in 2004
