Established in 1886 by Henry Sharp and others including the brothers, Arthur and Leon Brin, as Brin's Oxygen Co Ltd to make oxygen, notably for limelight, at a plant using new technology in Horseferry Road, London, from 1887. From early 20th century manufacturers of oxygen for industrial purposes, most notably for welding. 1906 renamed British Oxygen Co Ltd. Grew rapidly, developing plant in the regions, establishing overseas interests, diversifying into other gases, manufacturing liquid gases, etc, etc. In 1975 renamed BOC International Ltd. By this time a major international industrial gases group. For long dominated UK market for industrial gases, especially oxygen and acetylene. As BOC Group Plc acquired by Linde Group of Germany in 2006 [2023]
