Traced origins to around 1800 when known as Cole, Whittle & Co, otherwise Flookesbrook Foundry. From 1832 Johnson family were sole owners until 1874 after which it was known as Johnson & Ellington. Ellington went on to found the London Hydraulic Power Co. Incorporated 1874 as Hydraulic Engineering Co Ltd. Manufactured high pressure hydraulic machinery for production of power to operate lifts, cranes, ramps, etc, exporting it around the world. Major UK customers included London Hydraulic Power Co Ltd and similar suppliers in Liverpool, Manchester, Glasgow, Birmingham, etc. Also supplied private installations to dock and railway companies, naval dockyards, etc. In wartime made shell presses. From 1950s specialised in hydraulic presses
