Traced origins to Honeywill Brothers Ltd, London based building product importers and merchants, which were acquired by The Distillers Co Ltd in 1922. In mid 1920s this business was appointed distributors of Gyproc Wallboard, a pioneering plasterboard, on behalf of Gypsum Lime & Alabastine Ltd of Canada. Honeywill in 1931 acquired Stein Brothers Ltd, another building products business, to form Honeywill & Stein Ltd. In 1933 H&S joined with GL&A to form Gyproc Products Ltd which built production plant in the UK, initially at Rochester and, later, Glasgow. In 1938 the whole operation became fully owned by DCL via H&S. Late H&S disposed of their other interests. 1944 GPL merged with British Plaster Board Group with DCL taking a substantial shareholding in the BPBG business
