Traced origins to early 1930s when Mr A Niblett, d1946, established Hampshire Car Bodies & Renovators at Southampton to build bodies for light vans and trucks and to repair same. 1939 relocated to modern works at Totton. Also in 1939 merged with L E Young Ltd, manufacturers of sheet metal and engineers, although both firms retained separate identities. 1946 acquired by Adam (New Forest) Ltd and from 1949 began to focus on building body work for fire appliances, giving up other types of body work in 1964. Soon after reorganised as HCB Engineering Ltd. 1964 George Angus & Co Ltd acquired a large minority stake when combined with their fire appliance business at Willesden, London, called Fire Armour Ltd. Renamed HCB Angus Ltd. 1968 Dunlop (Holdings) Ltd acquired Angus and fire appliance business subsequently sold on to Guthrie Group and, later, to others. Closed 1994
