Established in 1962 to manage ports of railway companies, etc, nationalised in late 1940s and then held by British Transport Commission [which was abolished in 1962]. In 1981 renamed Associated British Ports and floated in 1983 in an early exercise in privatisation by the then Tory government. 2006 acquired by a consortium of infrastructure and other investment funds. Then delisted. Continuing in 2012 when managing over 20 UK ports
