Traced origins to 1908 when established by Emil S Conradi, 1883-1947, as the British General Electrical Co, electrical equipment wholesalers based in Rosebury Av, Islington. Soon renamed British Central Electrical Co. Incorporated 1913. From early on also designed electrical equipment, especially saftey products and portable lighting which were manufactured under contract. By 1950s a leading hand lamp manufacturing business, as well as wholesalers, selling under Gripper brand. Also acted as brokerage for sale of second hand electrical plant and acted as accessors of other electrical inventions and products. Opened first branch, at Yeovil, in 1950s followed by several others. Continues
