Traced origins to c1727 when developed by Ambrose Newton under a lease from the Duchess of Buckingham. Subsequently managed by the Newton family, especially Richard and Ambrose junior, until 1751. Thereafter numerous operators under lease from Lord Mulgrave, later Marquess of Normanby. By 1842 operated by Liddle & Gordon and in 1864 by Henry Armstrong. Closed 1871
