John Benjamin Dancer, 1812-87, was a maker of optical, mathematical and philosophical instruments. 1835 inherited his father's business at Liverpool. From early 1840s working in Manchester, initially as Abraham & Dancer. Made, inter alia, microscopes and stereoscopic cameras and responsible for first micro images. Gave up business in 1878
