In 1929 other acquisitions were T R Shercliffe & Co Ltd and Thornewill & Warham Ltd. The latter was established at Burton in 1747 by Thomas Thornewill as an edge tool maker and, from mid 19th century, made steam engines and locomotives especially for breweries and collieries.
