Notes:
Ancient charitable trust, overseen by Corporation of London, which in 2024 owns and maintains five River Thames bridges - Tower, London, Southwark, Blackfriars and Millenium. Traces origins to 11th century and received royal charter in 1282 when formally associated with Corporation of London. Formed to maintain London Bridge and derived its funding from donations and tolls. In due course came to own substantial property in City of London through which obtain additional rents. Funded the rebuilding / improvement of London Bridge on several occasions - eg 1756, 1831, 1896, 1972. Built Blackfriars Bridge in mid 18th century to designs of Robert Mylne, 1733-1811, acquired Southwark Bridge from Southwark Bridge Co in 1866, and built Tower Bridge which opened in 1894 [2024]
