Traced origins to 1864 when established at Staines by Frederick Walton, 1834-1928, the inventor of linoleum to make the product. For many years was a leading producer. Walton retired 1878 although went on to form the successful Greenwich Inlaid Linoleum Co Ltd. Subsequently a public company. 1930 merged with Barry Ostlers & Shepherd Ltd of Kirkcaldy, Scotland, to form Barry & Staines Linoleum Co Ltd
