Traced origins to 1850s when John Corbett acquired two salt and chemical production businesses at Stoke Prior. One was British Alkali Co which traced its origins to Jonathan Fardon in 1828. Fardon was joined by William Gossage in 1830 when diversified into chemical and soap production. 1835 renamed British Alkali Co and acquired by Corbett in 1858. The other was established in 1825 by William Furnell. It was acquired by Matthew MacAlister in 1828 and by Alexander Reid in 1831. From 1836 operated by Imperial Salt & Alkali Co. Works leased to Corbett in 1858 and acquired by him in 1867. Subsequently developed as a high quality salt production business. 1880s sold by Corbett to Salt Union
