Lancelot 'Capability' Brown, c1716-83, was the leading landscape gardener of the 18th century who also practised as an architect. Set up in practice in 1740s, when head gardener at Stowe, and worked for a succession of wealthy and influential clients. By 1750s also working as a country house architect. Relocated from Stowe to Hammersmith in 1751. Worked until his death
