Silk merchants in London owned by David Evans, 1791-1874. May trace origins to Rupert Evans & Co, calico printers at Crayford from mid 18th century. David Evans acquired printing works at Crayford in about 1840s based on former premises of Augustus Applegath, 1788-1871. Developed these into a large silk printing complex. Firm survived into late 20th century having been revived by new management in the 1930s. Late 1820s leased large silk mill at Tring erected in early 1820s by William and Joseph Kay, textile merchants at Manchester and later London and owners of Tring Park estate. 1968 acquired Vanners Silks. c1980 sold to Sekers International Plc. 1889 acquired by management.
