Traced origins to the Brice family, clay merchants and barge owners at Rochester. As W & G Brice diversified by developing sand and ballast digging at Rainham, Kent. 1904 acquired ballast reserves at Ham, Teddington, when business resonstructed with William Brice, d1951, taking Ham business and George Brice taking that at Rochester. 1924 established additional workings at Chiswick. 1928 business sold to Ham River Grit Co Ltd, formed for the purpose. Converted to a public company 1929 via Thames Grit & Aggregates Ltd which soon after was acquired by Hall & Co Ltd to form Hall & Ham River Co Ltd which itself was subsequently acquired by Ready Mixed Concrete
